19 Weeks

The 19th week has been one of the coolest yet. Not only was it my birthday, but the baby has been moving like crazy, morning, noon and night. And, to top that we even managed to hear the heartbeat with Adam's stethoscope! I lay down after lunch to try and hear the baby's movements and to my surprise I heard a rapid little beat. Adam was able to listen as well and he counted 148 beats per minute, perfect! It was truly amazing.
My Birthday was wonderful as well. Pancakes and bacon in the morning, lunch on the beach with friends and pizza and a movie on the night (not to mention the plethora of desserts I received!).

The baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces, and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato... mmmm my favorite! The hair on her scalp is sprouting. This is a crucial time for sensory development: our baby's brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear our voices now, so Adam has been singing to him/her.
